The Syndicators Split: Founding Members Pursue New Projects
As said by one of the founders, "all's well that ends..."
May, 2005 - After five years of rocking the Space Coast, Central Florida, and even making a small blip on a national scale, The Syndicators are splitting to pursue new opportunities. The band attributes the split to consistent frustrations over keeping a stable rhythm section line-up.
In mid-July of 2000, the Syndicators had their first performance at That's It Antique Bar in Melbourne, and started what has been a successful five-year run in Central Florida. In mid-June of 2005, they will have their last Space Coast performance at Big Daddy Dave's Jazz and Blues club, and their last Orlando performance at Tanqueray's.
The Syndicators' small bit of national attention came as a result of their involvement in the "Bose® Sound Alive program," helping Bose launch their new Personalized Amplification System(tm) family of products. The band was hand-picked to be one of only 24 music acts who represented Bose in live music venues nationwide, for a six-month period starting in October of 2003.
Despite the band's successes, most of its history has been plagued by personnel problems. Only after 3.75 years of the band's existence did the drummer position finally seem to stabilize, once occupied by Joe Luley. Prior to that, only Wayne Myers held the position for more than a year, occupying it during the Syndicators' most stable year of existence. But Joe joined the band a few short months after bassist Scott Mayo's departure, and since that time no bassist has stayed with the band for more than six months at a time. With the departure of their latest bassist in January of 2005, founding members Matt Sams and Amado decided to move on rather than rebuild.
The Syndicators have been playing out the gigs that had been already scheduled, enjoying the fill-in help of two excellent bassists. At the same time, Matt Sams has started to play his brand of guitar-driven Blues at some venues on the Space Coast, as front man for the Matt Sams Band. Amado is singing with a new Orlando-area variety/cover band he is co-founding called Upbeat, and is also working as a sideman for Angie Del Riego's Latin Twist.
Matt Sams will be using a single Personalized Amplification System(tm) to amplify his performances. Upbeat will use these Bose systems to amplify the whole band; between them, members own enough to use them in much the same way the Syndicators do.
Matt and Amado are grateful for opportunity to have taken part in making some great music. They appreciate all the musicians who have made that possible with the Syndicators - from other the co-founders who helped bring the band into existence, to the members who left their mark on the band, to all the professional musicians who have sat in. Matt and Amado part on good terms.
