Temptations and Battle of the Bands Results
The Syndicators Wow Audience as Last Band Performing at the Event
The Syndicators overcame weather, scheduling problems, and the late hour to deliver a crowd-rousing set at a performance on June 7th, 2003.
It was nearly 10 PM when the Syndicators finally took the stage. The audience had already seen three local area bands, and the Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards, and then two more local area bands. They had seen some excellent, and some not-so-hot, performances. They had been subjected to heat, rain, and the spectacle of a funnel cloud in the near distance. Many had been there since 3 or 4 in the afternoon, and were tired. However, the word on the street is that no spirits could remain dampened while the band played.
The Syndicators were deeply appeciative of the crowd's response, both during and after their performance, despite the judges' decision to award a Battle of the Bands prize to another competing band.
Originally, the Syndicators were hired by the City of Winter Garden to open for the Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards as part of the city's Centennial Starry Nights Outdoor Concert Series. The show was sponsored by a local area radio station. At some point, Winter Garden agreed to also make this event the station's annual Battle of the Bands. The Syndicators were invited to compete in the Battle, and were offered the time slot immediately before the Temptations, who were then scheduled to close the show.
Weather-related delays, and scheduling problems with setting up the stage for Battle of the Band competitors, prompted the event organizers to re-arrange the order of the bands so that the Temptations could go on at the time they were originally scheduled to. This moved the Syndicators' time slot to the very end of the night. Undaunted, the band determined to put on the best show they could, for the benefit of the people who stayed.
On hearing the band, people in the audience (many of whom were hearing them for the first time) could be heard hollering for more Syndicators after every song. Whatever the outcome of the rest of the day, that in itself was something of a victory for the band.
